49ers vs. Seahawks Week 1 Showdown: Schedule, Viewing Guide, and Hype for Fans of Both Teams

August 25, 2025

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Faithful and 12s, mark your calendars! The 2025 NFL season kicks off with a heated NFC West showdown as the San Francisco 49ers face the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1. And this isn’t just another division clash — it’s the first-ever NFL regular-season game held in South America, set to take place at Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, Brazil.

With Brock Purdy determined to lead the Niners back to the Super Bowl and Geno Smith out to prove Seattle’s rise is no fluke, this international opener promises fireworks. Here’s everything you need to know about the schedule, how to watch, and why both fanbases should be buzzing.

👉 Pro tip for 49ers fans: Even though the game is abroad, tailgate traditions never die — Levi’s Stadium watch parties and Bay Area bars will be rocking.
👉 For Seahawks fans: Expect CenturyLink (Lumen Field) vibes at local watch spots across Seattle as the 12s bring the noise.

  • Radio: Niners fans can listen on KNBR 680 with Greg Papa on the call; Seahawks fans on KIRO 710 AM with Steve Raible. SiriusXM Channel 88 for national radio.

  • Game Details and Schedule

    • Date and Time: Thursday, September 5, 2025, at 8:15 p.m. ET (5:15 p.m. PT for West Coast fans).

  • Location: Arena Corinthians, São Paulo, Brazil (neutral site, with the 49ers designated as the home team).

  • Why This Game Matters:
For San Francisco, it’s about proving they’re still the NFC’s powerhouse after falling short in last year’s playoffs. Purdy enters with high expectations, backed by playmakers like Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle. For Seattle, it’s a chance for Geno Smith and young stars like Jaxon Smith-Njigba to challenge the Niners’ dominance and set the tone early in the NFC West race.

This international opener is more than football — it’s a statement game in one of the NFL’s fiercest rivalries.

Key Matchups and Hype for 49ers Fans

Faithful, get ready! The Niners’ defensive front — Nick Bosa, Javon Hargrave, and Dre Greenlaw — will look to overwhelm Seattle’s offensive line. On offense, watch for Purdy’s chemistry with McCaffrey and Aiyuk to exploit the Seahawks’ secondary. Remember last year’s 31-13 win over Seattle? Expect Kyle Shanahan to cook up more magic.

Key Matchups and Hype for Seahawks Fans

12s, your time is now! Geno Smith must stay clean against Bosa’s relentless pass rush. Look for Kenneth Walker III to test San Francisco’s run defense, while DK Metcalf vs. Charvarius Ward will be a must-watch battle on the outside. If Seattle’s defense — led by Bobby Wagner in his return season — can contain McCaffrey, the upset is in play.

What to Expect and Final Thoughts

This Brazil game is bigger than just points on the board — with concerts, fan zones, and a global broadcast, it’s a showcase for the NFL’s future.

For Niners fans, it’s about starting strong in their quest to return to the Super Bowl. For Seahawks fans, it’s about sending a message that they’re ready to reclaim NFC West glory.

Bills sign punter who looks just like famous comedian and their head coach
The Buffalo Bills were not joking around about upgrading their kicking game. They signed a punter who looks like comedian Bill Burr. Buffalo added Cameron Johnston and kicker Matt Prater to their active roster on Monday, waiving punter Brad Robbins after just one game. Sean McDermott now has a punter close to his likeness and a kicker close to his age. Cameron Johnston joins Bills   Johnston, 33, is an eight-year NFL veteran who has appeared in 96 games with the Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers, posting a career average of 47.3 yards per punt. Looking for a free mini puzzle? Play the USA TODAY Quick Cross now. A native of Victoria, Australia, he transitioned from Aussie rules football to punting at Ohio State, where he won a national title in 2014. He was Philadelphia’s starter from 2018–20, spent three seasons with Houston, and played in Pittsburgh in 2024 before a knee injury ended his year. Johnston lost the job in training camp to Corliss Waitman in Pittsburgh this year. Off the field, Johnston and his wife cover adoption fees for shelter dogs every time one of his punts lands inside the 20. He has 183 such kicks in his career. Bill Burr lookalike goes viral McDermott won't look to punt. But if he does, he'll think he's looking in the mirror. Johnston is a McDermott doppelgänger — bald head, fair skin and orange scruff — and has long been compared to stand-up comedian and actor Bill Burr. Burr acknowledged the resemblance on The Breakfast Club radio show. "Oh, yeah, I've seen that guy," Burr said. "It's scary. I concur. The guy definitely looks like me." Bills release Brad Robbins Robbins signed with Buffalo this offseason, but lasted just one game. He had the worst punting expected points added (EPA) and was next to last in punt average (39.5 yards) in Week 1. The Bills gave Robbins the boot on Monday. Matt Prater rewarded with roster spot   Prater, 41, is the NFL’s king of long kicks, holding the league record for most field goals from 50 yards or more (81). Elevated from the practice squad for Sunday night’s 41-40 win over the Ravens, he went 3-for-3 on field goals, including the 32-yard walk-off, and made both of his extra points. With Tyler Bass on injured reserve, Prater had already exhausted one of his three practice squad elevations. Prater is the second-oldest active player in the league, behind only Aaron Rodgers, and ranks 14th in NFL history \with 1,819 career points.
