Kansas City Chiefs in Talks to Add Shilo Sanders to Practice Squad, Pending Medical Clearance Despite Ongoing Drama

The Kansas City Chiefs are exploring one of the more intriguing practice squad options this week, entering talks to add safety Shilo Sanders. The move remains subject to medical clearance before any agreement is finalized.

Sanders, the 25-year-old son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, has been a polarizing figure since leaving college. His on-field flashes are undeniable, but lingering injuries and off-field drama have followed him into the NFL.

After going undrafted in 2025, Sanders signed with Tampa Bay and appeared in three preseason games. His stint ended abruptly after an ejection for unnecessary roughness against Buffalo, leading the Buccaneers to waive him on August 24.

Despite the rocky start, Kansas City sees developmental potential. Sanders logged 161 tackles, 11 interceptions, and six forced fumbles across 41 college games, including a standout 2023 season at Colorado when he led the team in solo tackles.
